What Are RAD Vocational Classes?

RAD vocational grades are structured ballet examinations aimed at students who want to progress beyond recreational ballet training. Unlike graded classes, which combine ballet with free movement and character work, vocational levels focus more intensely on classical ballet technique, strength, musicality, and performance quality.

These classes help dancers develop:

  • Technical precision

  • Posture and alignment

  • Core and lower-body strength

  • Musical interpretation

  • Performance confidence

  • Discipline and resilience

Vocational training also prepares students for higher-level examinations, auditions, performances, and potential future dance pathways.

Pointe Preparation: Building Strength Safely

For many ballet students, dancing en pointe is an exciting milestone. However, pointe work should never be rushed. Proper preparation is essential to ensure dancers are physically ready and technically secure before progressing into pointe shoes.

Pointe Preparation classes are specifically designed to strengthen and condition the body for pointe work in a safe and gradual way.

These classes focus on:

  • Foot and ankle strength

  • Core stability

  • Balance and alignment

  • Calf and leg conditioning

  • Correct weight placement

  • Articulation through the feet

Students also learn the importance of control, posture, and muscle engagement — all critical elements for successful pointe work.

Intermediate Foundation and Pointe Preparation - Mondays, 6:30pm to 7:30pm at City Academy Hackney. Suitable for students who are 11 years+ and who attend a weekly grade class.
